What makes a good snail owner?

attentive care and love
For The Snail's Heart
While snails may not be like dogs or cats, they still require a reasonable amount of attention, in the means of general care as well as establishing a loving bond between pet and human. Daily care is an essential factor in keeping any kind of Gastropoda, and within this daily care, both you and your shelled companion will begin to view one another as more than just a part of everyday life. Some snail owners prefer to hold their snails daily, creating a trust bond, while others go above and beyond to keep their pets happy with frequent visits to creeks and ponds, careful attention to health and diet, and elaborate vivarium set-ups, as well as play-pens or special snail-specific gardens that their pets are allowed to roam in.

a welcoming vivarium
For The Snail's Comfort
Snails will spend most of their time inside of their vivariums, whether they be tanks, jars, tubs, etc. This is why it is essential that wherever they happen to reside, their home is comfortable, stimulating, and practical. It's important that you provide your pet with necessary substrate, branches, artificial greenery, and anything else that you feel may be appropriate. If you're unable to meet the standards for your snail's care, possibly rethink if a pet like this is right for you at all. Most importantly, make sure your snail knows that it is being taken care of in all aspects. If you're having trouble finding things that you think your snail would like, feel free to ask any member of our Wanderlust team questions.

a nutritional diet
For The Snail's Health
Wild snails will eat just about anything they can find; contrary to what most people assume, snails cannot tell what will be harmful to them and what won't be. This is why it is important that you do research on what is best for your snail to eat, and what will keep them healthy the longest. Some snail owners assume that they can feed their pet whatever is in their garden at the moment, but this isn't ideal. Your best bet is to go to your local produce section and pick and choose foods that are specifically for your shelled companion. Arrange a wellness check-up with one of our Wanderlust team members to learn more about your snail's personal vitamin, calcium, and nutritional requirements.
